Parent Update – March 31st, 2023

Dear Families,

I hope you are doing well.

It’s been a hectic few days at school and we are looking forward to welcoming our students back on MONDAY!

Flood/Building Update

• Early on Wednesday morning, a hot water pipe burst in the boys bathroom on the main floor
• The water then burst through the wall into the neighbouring classroom (room 116)
• When staff and students entered the building for volleyball practice at 7am, a few inches of water had accumulated in the gym, the hallway, the classrooms and part of the cafeteria
• The school was closed and a flood expert company was brought in
• Unfortunately, when the wall was opened up where the water came through, mold was discovered
• This area has been professionally sealed off and the mold is being removed by experts
• After a few days of hard work, we will be ready to re-open our building on Monday
• Please take note of the following and share with your children:
  • The hallway, gym, changeroom, cafeteria, Symmes art room and weight room will all be accessible as usual on Monday
  • There was no damage to student lockers
  • We needed to move approximately 30 lockers from the hallway into the cafeteria (no locks were removed)
  • Staff will be in the hallway Monday morning directing the students impacted by the locker relocation
  • D’Arcy art classes will be held in the cafeteria on Monday and will be back in their regular classroom on Tuesday
  • Music classes will be relocated on Monday and will be back in the regular classroom on Tuesday
  • The Breakfast Club will be offered out of the front lobby on Monday and back to it’s regular space on Tuesday
  • Classroom 116 has been closed for the foreseeable future and classes have been relocated
  • If your child’s class has been moved, they should expect to receive a message on Teams from their teacher with the new room number
  • Staff will be present to help students find their room
  • Unfortunately the student and staff washrooms on the ground floor are sealed and not accessible – the timeline of this remains unknown

Grad Hoodies

• We have opened up a ‘last-chance’ online boutique to order grad hoodies
• Please visit www.vsp.net and click on ‘boutique’
• You can order between March 31^st – April 11^th
• Hoodies will be delivered directly to the school at the end of May

Dates

• April 7^th – Good Friday – School closed
• April 10^th – Easter Monday – School closed
