Grade 8 Dance
- To celebrate our grade 8 students, we will be hosting a dance on June 20th, 7pm-9:30pm
- I have attached a poster with information and a sign-up link
New York City!
- We are planning a trip to New York City for our senior students for October 17th – 19th, 2024
- The registration portal is now open
- I have attached a registration letter, a parent user guide and the itinerary to this email

- Our exam schedule is attached to this email
- Please watch this student-made video that details the exams taking place next week:
2024 Graduation Ceremony
- June 25th, 2pm in our school Gymnasium
- Please note that each graduate can invite up to 4 guests
- These tickets are available for pick up now – grade 11 students can collect the tickets from our receptionist or parents can come to the school to collect them
- Class of 2024 lawn signs will be given to families following the ceremony
Upcoming Dates

Due to the important message below regarding local construction,
Intersection Closure
- Beginning early this morning, the intersection at Vanier Road and Plateau Blvd will be completely impassable due to construction
- Traffic heading southbound on Vanier will be detoured through the Plateau area
- Traffic heading northbound on Vanier will be detoured through the commercial plaza
- If you are driving your child to school, expect delays in the morning and afternoon – we would recommend that you leave earlier than usual
- We are expecting that some buses will arrive late in the morning and may take longer arriving at your child’s drop-off location in the afternoon
- Please make sure you download the WQSB app so that you can receive transportation updates (instructions attached)
- This intersection is scheduled to re-open on Sunday morning

Tonight is the night! Symmes Darcy will be hosting its first art show vernissage in a very long time! Come enjoy drinks, live music, art displayed by our students in grades 7-11, and even a live final art battle!
The cost? Zero! See you there!
The D’Arcy McGee Trip to New York City is open to all students who will be in Grades 9, 10 and 11 next year. The trip will take place on the PD Days in October, from the 17th to the 19th . With 50 students participating, the cost will now be $849. For more information and to sign-up, please see Ms. Furlotte in Room 382 or Ms. Piercey in Room 334. The deadline to bring in your signed form is this Friday. There will also be a mandatory information session during lunch on Friday in Room 382.
Graduation Ceremony Tickets : Tickets for our graduation ceremony will be ready for pick up the week of May 27th , Grade 11 students can pick the tickets up from our receptionist or parents can come to the school to collect them
The final retest for the 12 min. run and the beep test for term 3 for both Symmes and D’Arcy will be at lunch time May 24th starting at noon sharp.
Are you interested in joining the 2024-2025 Student Council at Symmes and D’Arcy? Applications are now available from Ms. Piercey in Room 334. The deadline to apply is June 7th.

Exam Session
- I have attached our exam schedule to this email
- Please note the last day of regular classes is June 7th
- Grade 8, 9 & 10 students have an exam in the morning of June 7th and regular classes in the afternoon
- June 10th – June 21st: school buses will depart at the regular time (3:40pm)
- If students are writing exams in the morning, they can choose to leave immediately after their exam (walk, parent pick-up, city bus) or they can stay at school in a supervised location until 3:40pm
CISSSO Survey

2024 Graduation Ceremony
- June 25th, 2pm in our school Gymnasium
- Please note that each graduate can invite up to 4 guests
- Seating will be done in advance using a lottery system – we expect that tickets will be available for collection during the week of May 21st
- All grade 11 students have received a form (sent to their school email address) asking for their height – please remind your graduating child to complete this form so that we can order appropriately sized graduation gowns
- Class of 2024 lawn signs will be given to families following the ceremony
Webinar – Teens and Drugs
- The Portage Adolescent Program is hosting a free webinar on May 14th at 6:30pm
- Parents can listen to experts in the industry provide information on signs to look out for when it comes to your children’s exposer to drugs and alcohol
- The speakers can provide concrete tips on how to open up dialogue with your teen
- Parents can also learn about current trends and the effects of social media and youth mental health

It was an amazing week at school celebrating Love is Louder! Our students started the week by cleaning up our community and we will wrap things up with a concert showcasing their many talents tonight.
Here is some information for this week:
June Final Exams
- June 10th – 21st is our official June Exam period
- Some grade levels will also be writing exams on June 7th with regular classes occurring for other grades
- Attendance during final exams is mandatory and as per the Ministry of Education Guidelines, only the following reasons for student absences will be accepted:
· Illness or accident confirmed by a medical report or certificate
· Death of a close relative
· A court summons
· Participation in a provincial or national event
- Please note that the official June exam schedule will be shared with students and parents NEXT WEEK
Upcoming Vaccines
- Public Heath and CISSSO will be offering vaccines (measles and meningitis) to students in May
- Please note that the dates/grades were recently changed by CISSSO – the dates below are correct
- On May 2, grades 7, 8 & 9 will be offered these vaccines
- On May 3, grades 10 & 11 will be offered these vaccines
- Parents with children under the age of 14 missing a vaccine have received a separate email with a consent form and instructions
- I have attached an information booklet to this email

Love is Louder!
- Next week is our annual Love is Louder week at Symmes – D’Arcy McGee!
- All week we will be promoting kindness, inclusivity and love!
- I have attached a poster to this email that details the daily activities
- To end the week, there will be a concert (poster attached) on Friday April 26th at 7pm
- Tickets can be purchased at school all week in the cafeteria or at our reception desk
