The ‘Not In My School’ initiative began eight years ago as a result of a racist incident in a grade seven class. Our principal Mr. Singfield, and two teachers, Ms Wilkinson and Ms. Gale met with students in a restorative session to remediate the conflict. They also brought in senior students to provide mentorship. What came out of these sessions was the ‘Not in My School’ initiative, which has grown in each of the last seven years. The core tenets of ‘Not in My School’ reinforce the belief that violence, racism, sexism, homophobia, and cyberbullying have no place in our school community. Various awareness methods have included t-shirts, toques and student-made videos.
Our school community continues to adhere to the principles of ‘Not in My School’ and we have renewed our efforts this year to raise awareness beyond our school and our board.
