Dear Families,

THEY DID IT – WE ARE SO PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS!

Here is some final information to wrap-up the school year:

Grade 11 Graduation Event

• This milestone event will take place on June 25^th at 2pm in our school gymnasium – doors will be locked once the ceremony commences
• Students must arrive by 12:30pm – they will be directed to their assigned room to collect their gowns and caps
• Please note that we do not have secure storage for student bags/purses/makeup etc.
• Guests are invited to park in the lot to the left of the building as well as the bus parking lot
• Please understand that only ticket holders will be able to attend – we are at full capacity and there are no extra chairs at this time
• We are anticipating a 2 hour event
• Gowns must be returned by 6pm as the supplier will be collecting them
• Families are invited to take photos on our school grounds prior to the gown return
• Students are able to keep their caps
• We can’t wait to celebrate our graduates!

Promotion Policies

• Grade 7 & 8 students must pass 2/3 core subjects and 6/8 total subjects to be promoted to the next grade level
• Grade 9 & 10 students are promoted on a subject-by-subject basis (ex: a student must pass grade 9 science to move to grade 10 science
• A copy of the graduation requirements is attached to this email

Ministry Exams

• I have attached information on how grade 10 and grade 11 students can create an account on the Ministry of Education (MEQ) portal
• This will allow students to access their statement of marks (official transcripts) from the MEQ in July
• Please note that the MEQ will also be mailing hard copies out to families in mid-July – creating the account allows for earlier access
• Please note that the accounts must be created by students and NOT by parents
• Tips for signing into the Ministry of Education Portal for secondary 4 and 5 students:
  • Use a personal email address, not a WQSB email address
  • The names of your parents must be exactly as they are written on your birth certificate
  • The permanent code is listed on report cards and is a combination of letters and numbers
• Reach out to the Ministry directly if you have any issues creating your account or logging in.

Final Report Cards

• These will be published to the parent portal by June 29^th
• Please make sure to thoroughly read your child’s report card for information about summer school and/or failed courses

Summer School

• The WQSB Summer School will be located at Symmes-D’Arcy McGee
• Registration:

• Online Registration: June 25^th – July 17^th,
• In-person registration: July 2^nd – July 17^th, 1pm-5pm
• Registration for Ministry courses: July 7^th – July 11^th

Dear Families,

I hope you are doing well.

Here is some information for this week:

Formal Exam Session

• Our formal exam session begins next week (schedule attached)
• Here is a video detailing the exams taking place next week:

• On Monday, all students EXCEPT grade 11 French Immersion students will attend regular classes
• On Tuesday, all SYMMES students will attend regular classes all day and there will be regular classes running in the afternoon for all students following the D’Arcy French exams in the morning
• Starting on Wednesday, students only come to school if they have an exam
• Buses will depart at the regular time (3:45pm) and students are welcome to remain at school supervised in the cafeteria
• Students can also choose to leave after their exam (walk, bike, city bus, parent ride)
• Students will be writing exams in air-conditioned spaces (gyms, portables) and they are reminded to bring a sweater as it can be chilly
• Attendance during final exams is mandatory and as per the Ministry of Education Guidelines, only the following reasons for student absences will be accepted:

·        Illness or accident confirmed by a medical report or certificate

·        Death of a close relative

·        A court summons

·        Participation in a provincial or national event

Screen Time and Studying

• Please review the attached documents with suggestions for screen time and studying

Lockers

• Our caretakers will begin cutting students locks and emptying out lockers on June 15^th
• Please remind your child to bring home all of their belongings for the summer

EPCA Letter

• I have attached a letter that we received from the English Parents’ Committee of Quebec
• The letter is in regards to the government’s decision to table Bill 8 (the extension of Bill 101)
• EPCA is asking parents to consider signing and sending the letter to your MNA
• French and English versions attached

Upcoming Dates

• June 12^th – Grade 8 Awards Ceremony – only parents of children receiving awards will receive an invitation
• June 15^th – Grade 7 Awards Ceremony – only parents of children receiving awards will receive an invitation
• June 24^th – Holiday
• June 25^th – Graduation
